The Australian Clinical Trials Alliance (ACTA) was officially launched by Professor Chris Brook PSM on 28 March 2014 at the National Summit of Clinical Trials Networks in Melbourne.

Professor Brook, Executive Director of Wellbeing, Integrated Care & Ageing at VIC Health emphasised the crucial importance of clinical trials to guide health service delivery during his opening speech at the ACTA Summit on March 28.

VIC Health provided $200,000 in seed funding to support the development of ACTA. Highlighting the Victorian Government's move towards a systems-based approach to service delivery, Professor Brook acknowledged ACTA's role in supporting well-designed clinical trials and registries as fundamental components of a high-quality health system.

The ACTA Summit 2014 was officially supported by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

NHMRC CEO, Professor Warwick Anderson AM, congratulated the ACTA community on coming together to form the Alliance, commenting "If there's one thing that marks the 21st century in research it's really about collaboration, critical mass and coordination... this [ACTA] is that on steroids."
